1. Description:
MLCC manufacturers tried to replace silver–palladium inner electrodes with nickel electrodes. As nickel is easily oxidized in air at elevated temperatures, MLCCs with nickel inner electrodes should be fired in an atmosphere with a low oxygen partial pressure. However, the problem was that properties of BaTiO3-based dielectrics were easily reduced in such sintering conditions. Figure 3 shows a famous result of Sakabe at Murata Manufact., indicating the possibility to produce BaTiO3 ceramics with anti-reducing properties [2,3].
